Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan Studied Scientifically
A wide range of research activities is being carried out by professors, academic staff, and students of Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan to study the medicinal plants growing in Turkmenistan that are described in the multi-volume scientific and encyclopedic work Medicinal Plants of Turkmenistan by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Hero-Arkadag.
At the University's Scientific and Production Centre for Biotechnology and Genetics, nanoemulsions based on extracts of medicinal plants are being developed, their physicochemical properties are being studied, and recommendations are being prepared for their application in various sectors of industry. As part of efforts to fulfil the objectives of the State Programme for the Integrated Development of Biotechnology in Turkmenistan for 2024–2028, a scientific article based on this research was recently published by MDPI (Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute) in the Scopus-indexed journal Applied Sciences.
The new research article, entitled “Stable oil-in-water nanoemulsions stabilized by Polygonatum sewerzowii extract: A plant-derived alternative to synthetic surfactants,” was published in Issue 16 of the journal. The research was carried out through ongoing collaboration with the University of Tsukuba in Japan and the Research Institute of Medicinal Plants and Herbs in Hungary.
The study investigates the potential of the natural extract of Polygonatum sewerzowii as a stable bio-emulsifier, offering a promising and environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic surfactants used in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic nanoemulsions. The publication highlights the university's commitment to such areas as sustainable biotechnology, green chemistry, and innovative pharmaceutical production.
